How did you get the effect of falling leaves? Did you just throw them in the air?

Location
This photo was taken in my hometown "Girona". There is a lovely park where during winter you can see all the brown leaves on the floor and play with them. It's a great spot for pictures of any kind.Time
This photo was taken during winter, on the 25th of December at 2pm. This photo was part of an assignment for one of the photo challenges I was completing during 2015. My sister happily offered herself to be the subject of this picture and with the help of two assistants we created the mood of the photo.Lighting
The eye-catching image just used natural light. As the trees cover most of the direct sunlight, it's an ideal place to shot without artificial light. This image is using natural light only.Equipment
For this picture I used my lovely Nikon D7000 (the one that I usually use for travelling) with my inseparable Nikkor 85mm 1.8. The image was taken handheld without any other help.Inspiration
This photo was part of one of the challenges I was going through during 2015. That week we had to create a creative portrait and after thinking about different ideas this is what I came up with. The pose of the model , the leaves falling, the lightning, the location, etc. everything helped to create the mood of the photo. Also bear in mind that this photo was taken during winter, so the model was really coping with the cold and that helped a lot to create the expected mood.Editing
Yes, I use lightroom to correct any highlights/shadows and to produce an accurate picture. If I need anything additional I would go to photoshop to fix it. This picture didn't require much post-processing as I like to get the picture right on camera. The leaves are completely real and it took several shots to get the image right. In my camera bag
I'm a nikon fan and I usually carry with me a Nikon D750 with my 85mm/50mm F1.8. I force myself to shot only with those two lenses to get the pictures that I always imagine on my mind. Also during my trips I carry a Nikon D7000 which is a really great companion.Feedback
Girona winter has unique characteristics as it's mostly dry and cold. It's not common to see snow there but temperatures get below zero easily. Getting to that park called "La Devesa" is really easy and once you are there you only need to spot a place where the sun doesn't bother you off you go to play with the leaves. Just grab a handful of them and throw then in the air. It is recommendable that you bring some assistants as it's going to be difficult to shot this kind of images without someone throwing the leaves on top of the model.
