Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Moira, New York, a small town near the Canadian Border.

Time

This was taken in the little boys parents race horse barn. It was mid day.

Lighting

The lighting on the little boy was from a facing window.

Equipment

I shoot with a Canon D7000 with a 70-200mm 2.8 lens. Thats pretty much it, no flash or other equipment. I try my best to create natural photos with natural lighting

Inspiration

The little boy is touching part of a harness that is used in racing standardbred horses. My family are family friends with the little boys family. Race horses are a big part of both families lives, so its nice to be able to capture something that means something to both of us. I think he also represents the next generation of drivers and trainers.

Editing

The only post process was in lightroom where I decreased shadows and decided to go with a sepia toning.

In my camera bag

Sometimes I don't even carry a bag! I almost always shoot with my 70-200mm 2.8 but once in a while Ill switch to a 50mm 1.8.

Feedback

The only advice I would have would be to wait. There have been times where a parent steps in or tries to direct the child and if you wait just a little while and let the child be natural, you will most of the time get a great shot!
