Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my previous home in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada. I am a self-taught photographer and I find that my pets, especially my cat, Charlotte (she came with the name), are the best subjects to practice on.

Time

This was actually taken right after I received my Canon 6D! Charlotte (the cat) was more excited about having a new box to play in.

Lighting

Nothing too special about the lighting. It just happened to be the perfect time of day and Charlotte is the perfect coloured cat to photograph.

Equipment

For this photo, I used my fresh out-of-the-box Canon 6D with the 70-300mm lens that it came with.

Inspiration

To be honest, I love my cat. But the other reason for taking this was to test out my new camera.

Editing

I am pretty minimal with post-processing. I just touched it up a bit, made her a little brighter and her colours stand out.

In my camera bag

I am very minimalistic with what I bring to a shoot. I am really just starting to make my photography into a business and I haven't really found the right bag for me. So at the moment, I have only been using my Canon 6D with a Sigma 35mm 1.4 lens. This lens is incredible and extremely flexible when it comes to shooting different types of sessions (ie. Weddings, couples, families, etc.). I really do not like switching between lenses because I feel like it can waste time and you may miss a vital moment of that session.

Feedback

This is spur of the moment type of photo, so advice on taking a similar photo is a little difficult. I guess my one piece of advice would be to have your camera handy for moments like this or any other that you would catch yourself say "oh, I wish I had my camera". :)
