One of my traditions is taking pictures of Holiday Ornaments. Unfortunately, with my new health challenges, I was unable to do my full two day shoot of traveling throughout the NYC area and taking hundreds of shots. On this particular day, I went to Macy's in New York and spent about an hour taking photos of the various ornaments.Time
This was an indoor shot taken in the early afternoon. Because the shot was taken indoors, the time of day was not jermain to any light or elements that could have caused in a different result.Lighting
I used the general store lighting, positioning myself & the camera so that the subject would receive the most prime light. One of my personal lighting choices is not using the camera's flash, so it was off. One of the tricks is being careful to allow customers to shop while also making sure their shadows don't enter into the shot. This is fun in itself because the customers tend to what to see what you are doing so they hang aroud.Equipment
This shot was taken with the camera I like to call my baby, my CoolPix 6000. As you know, that camera comes with a non-changeable lense. (The N1 will be in my arsenal very soon.) The shot was taken handheld without flash because I really don't like using the flash. For me, using the flash changes the truth of what the eye has seen. No-flash photography is a skill I am constantly working to improve.Inspiration
The Holiday's are a time when families travel from far and near to see each other and celebrate. Every year there are new Holiday themes presented via ornaments. The Travel Tree was new for 2015. I was inspired to take this photo because of my love for Holiday Ornaments, all things shopping and travel. This shot was the perfect representation. High heels, a suitcase covered with stickers from visited distant lands and Santa - Awesome!!! I was also inspired to take this photo because of the contrast from the ornament's red overtones and black undertones against the backdrop of the white tree.Editing
This image has no post-processing. It is my desire to present images in their most truest form, straing out of the can, unedited. To that end, I do little to zero post-processing other than identifying images with my SweetPea's Lenz logo.In my camera bag
I usually carry my CoolPix 6000, my iPhone and my Samsung phone because they easily fit into my pocketbook. However, when I am headed out to do a shoot, I carry my backpack equiped with both my CoolPix 6000 and Nikon D70 with both lenses, a few filters, tripod & monopod as well as my phones.Feedback
As photographers, we seek to create beautiful and lasting art. Whenever I am out I never know what I will see or what will capture my eye. It all begins with seeing things differently yet the same. As I walked around the store looking at the ornaments, several images and ideas popped into my head and stood out as special. After surveying things, I started seeing the angles and taking pictures. Take your time. Never rush because you will miss the one that really speaks to you. This shot was one of those for me. I am truly grateful and inspired for being recognized by fellow ViewBug photographers. Thank you.
