Behind The Lens

Location

An old aqueduct in Massachusetts

Time

Morning

Lighting

It was early but bright and as you can see I blew out the sky a little. It was great for the reflection but I did lose a lot of details in

Equipment

I used a Nikon D90 for this shot. ISO 320 18 mm f/8 1/60. The lens I used was a Nikkor 18-105 mm

Inspiration

I got lost on the way home and found this place by accident. I went home and waited for the leaves to change before I went back.

Editing

I adjusted the tint as there were lots of reds and orange giving an orange cast to the overall look

In my camera bag

I’ve learned a lot since I took this photo so I I keep a few filters with me now. A ND filter, a graduated ND filter and a polarizer. I have a speed light with diffusers, batteries, SD cards, a wide angle and a telephoto lens and I hope to add a couple more soon.

Feedback

I would suggest if it’s bright using a graduated neutral density filter to help bring out the details in the sky. You’ll be able to see the clouds instead of the flat white I have going on in this pic. It will save you some time in post production. I would try earlier in the morning as well or the golden hour. Take a few shots at different exposures. I tend to like my photos a tad underexposed. Better to be a little under than over-exposed.
