This photo was taken in my back yard just on the edge of my porch. I had noticed the action from my chair a few feet away. I loved how the moment captures both beauty and freedom. Having no ability to fly until this moment and capturing nature's symmetry as his muscles vein throughout the wing was a great eye catcher for me.Time
This was late at night roughly close to midnight. I was actually on my way in for the night just as noticed it. I ran inside and grabbed my camera. The flash would work, it wouldn't work, on and off having to work the right angle which let in enough light to activate the camera was a task.Lighting
It was very difficult to get this shot since it was so late and the only lighting I had was my porch light. I saw the beautiful colors in its wings and really wanted to capture the transformation. It took quite a few shots to get focus and lighting just right. I plan on investing in a speed light.Equipment
I used a Nikon D3200. I love Nikon cameras and equipment.Inspiration
I like pictures in nature and capturing a moment we would otherwise miss. I like to find the beauty in something that may not seem so attractive on the surface. The wings with their color and transparency really motivated me to grab it at the right time. Nature's symmetry is an incredible dynamic and I love how photos can capture and hold that beauty.Editing
I did use some basics coloring enhancements which helped bring out the colors that the night background and flash dulled out.In my camera bag
I always carry my Nikon D3200 camera. I have both an 18-55mm and 55 -300mm lens in the bag all the time. I like to switch to help get the shot I want.Feedback
Patience. Even though I stumbled upon this. Getting the right shot takes the the right angle and distance. Always play with the angles and distance to see what captures best.
