Location
I took this photo at my favorite beach in Denmark along the Southern coastline of the island Lolland.Time
The picture was taken at 6.17 pmLighting
I discovered the reflecting light at the stones in the front of the picture and decided to use this effect in the composition together with the soft light of the sunset. Also I was aware of the big contrast in the light and more shadowy parts of the picture. It gives the scene a sent of both beauty and drama.Equipment
I used a Canon EOS D6, no tripod or flash only use of the light present at the timeInspiration
I often take photos of the sunset here at this spot as I am totally in ove with the coastline ande the shifting moods it offers. This time I had the extra luck og the sun reflecting in the stones. I wanted to catch the eye of the spectator at this spotEditing
I did some work in photoshop, Elements 1. I enhanced the reflection a bit and added some contrast for the purpose of emphasizing the dramatic outputIn my camera bag
I stick to one camera and that is my Canon EOS 6D with a 24-105 mm lens.Feedback
The more you know a specific place the better you can understand the special qualities it can offer for a great picture. Visit the place often at different times of the day and shoot many pictures to understand what works and how. Practice makes the master. When photographing sunsets choose a day with some special character like much colour at the sky, rolling waves or absolutely quiet water. Make sure you come some time before the sun sets, you'll be surprised how quick the sun travels. It is also wise to bring your tripod in order to make a sharp picture. In this way you have time to spot the perfect compostion and adjust your camera. Shutter speed depends on the light and, that's why practising a lot ahead is a good thing. Use the lowest ISO possible for sharper picture. But at the bottomline it all depends of where you want to go with your picture. For this picture i used ISO 100, f-stop f/16, shutter speed 1/5 sec. and focal length 24 mm
