Behind The Lens
Location
This photo was taken in a field right behind my house, which is based in a rural area.Time
It was about midday although it was quite cloudy as usual with English weatherLighting
The lighting was bright behind the clouds although it was dull behind the clouds which in my eyes made it perfect for setting the mood it simplified the photo so that the dog and the grass stood out the most as that was what I was aiming forEquipment
I used a canon 500D for this photo, I'm a student so money is tight but the camera can work some magic, this was taken without any other equipment and a standard lens of 18mm to 55mmInspiration
The dog definitely, I wanted to capture what the dog was thinking in this photo as he is looking into the distance wondering where he will go exploring next, I felt influenced by where I live as well and I wanted to capture the countryside as wellEditing
After this photo was taken I went onto my editing. I started with sharpening the image as I wanted to make the dog stand out more than it already did, the next thing was to make sure the tone and everything was good then I decided whether or not to CB age it to grayscale or keep the colour, in the end I kept the colour as I thought it brought more life to the imageIn my camera bag
I always pack my canon, my 18-55mm lens and my 75-300mm lens. I sometimes pack my tripod but most of the time I take my pictures freehand as most of the time my photos are not planned it's what I see when I see it.Feedback
Don't try too hard, you want to feel the image working through your mind and finding the outcome. Working with animals is tricky but to look through the animals eye is harder the first thing I always do is try and get down to their level as I want to see how they are seeing things and if I like it I will take the picture. As you can see I used the rule of thirds in this photo and I wanted to have a lot of space around the subject to capture the view but still having the dog as the focal point.
