The sun's rays reach over the horizon gently lighting the peak of High Dune. Sparkling shimmers appear on the previous night's frost and grain-sized quartz sand. We began our hike in the cold darkness and trudged our way to the peak of High Dune in the Great Sand Dunes National Park, arriving a few short moments before the sun crested the Sangre De Cristo range to the east.
