Beautiful shot. Like the pinks, peaches, blue, violet colors you captured.

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken from the ridge of Loloata Island - outside Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea. My intention was to capture the bigger Island in the photo called 'SUSU Island' - susus means breast (logically referring to a female breast) because of its shape. Unfortunately, it wasn't possible to focus closer enough to isolate the intended subject.

Time

It was taken in the evening - around 7:25 pm

Lighting

I regard myself as a self-learning photographer. I do experimental shots in different lighting conditions and hope to find my niche one day as I improve in my photo shooting techniques.

Equipment

Equipment: Canon 70D with an EFS 55-250mm lens in manual mode. No flash and hand-held.

Inspiration

The sight of the Island through the branches of a nearby tree made the view appealing so I took several shots - this is one of them.

Editing

The sad part of my story is that I am not fond of extream post processing. I try to stick to the basic adjustments though (brightness, contrast, color and sharpening)

In my camera bag

As a beginner, my equipment is limited to the kit lens - EFS 18-55mm, the EFS 55-250mm zoom, an external flash and the camera (EOS 70D)

Feedback

I am not qualified to provide any form of advice for anyone at this stage but I always believe that capturing the best image from a camera is far better than post-processing. I have learnt one thing so far now is that.... to do photography requires one to learn two things concurrently; taking good photos with the hardware and post- processing with a software to bring out the best in digital photos. Anybody can compose and take very good, clear pictures from a camera but if one cannot post-process, the shots are not worthy of viewing by others. And finally thanks to ViewBug team for providing this great opportunity for aspiring photographers to learn through practice and participating in the competitions.
