Drev church, buried in the woods of southern Sweden, contains some of the oldest wooden images of the Madonna and Christ child in Europe. These were believed to have been carved as early as 1100-1200 A.D., and have been rubbed by so many people over time, they're smooth in places. There are traces of paint from its original appearance, and the Madonna is dressed in clothes appropriate to a Nordic queen of her era.
