Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on on a farm in rural Tennessee. It was the on the back end of the property and was just wanting some attention too.

Time

This was taken early evening around 6:00pm. We were in the beginning of fall and the sun was softer than the harsh summer sun a month before.

Lighting

The lighting outdoors was perfect for this shot. I didn't use a flash even with a diffuser because I wanted the natural light to showcase the rust and wear of the vehicle, and keep the subject soft. I just used a lower f-stop.

Equipment

I used my Nikon D700 with my Nikon 50mm f/1.4 lens.

Inspiration

I really wanted to get the bride incorporated with this old truck. it was almost as the something old and the something new theme of the wedding. We tried a couple different shots but when we had her in the mirror it all came together. I blurred the bride to give the picture a little more dramatic look. With the old rusty truck in focus and the bride being blurry it shows the past vs the unknown future she has ahead of her.

Editing

Very little to this shot. I sized it and sharpened for print with a tiny cropping of the original picture.

In my camera bag

I always carry my Nikon D700, Nikon 50mm f/1.4, along with a Nikon D3300 with an 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6, as well as a 55-200mm f/4-5.6. I use the D3300 for the more adventurous shots when I'm hiking or taking landscape/nature photography. It's lighter and cheaper incase I would fall or drop it in a creek. My Tripod is always in my car but doesn't necessarily come with me constantly. Especially if I'm joking long distances. I also have a set of filters I carry with me as well.

Feedback

Wait for the right lighting, do not hurry the shot. With a picture like this the lighting has to be right.
