Location
I was with a group of photographers on a photo trip based in Norfolk and took a few hours to travel down on the train we caught from Ely. The photo was taken in London off Tower Bridge that looks down the River Themes where City Hall, The Shard and the Walkie Talkie skyscrapers.Time
When we first arrived in London it had and was raining heavily for most of the day, it wasn't till the end of the day that the rain stopped. We just happened to be crossing the bridge when we saw the sky was developing into an interesting scene.Lighting
Often its a case of being in the right place at the right time when these images pop up and in my experience it is unusual to capture exactly what you have in mind due to the unpredictability of the weather, especially in the UK.Equipment
Recently I have been trying to keep my equipment light which when your walking miles around a city all day is real benefit. This image was taken with a Fuji X-E1 using a Samyang 12mm wide angle lens with a 10 stop B&W filter to use a long exposure that smooths out the water and sky which enhances the reflections in the water. As the exposure was a minute it was attached to a tripod.Inspiration
When just walking around a place like London its best just to explore as you never know what you will see, just keep your eyes open and making mental notes of what can be useful. I just happen to have my 10 stop filter with me so I experimented with it and I could see the potential and just used that while tweaking the composition each time.Editing
I take all images in RAW mode to keep as much information to get the best out of images. Typically I do basic adjustments in Lightroom with Highlights -100 and Shadows to +100 and Whites & Blacks to taste and Clarity to +30.In my camera bag
I have expanded my Fuji equipment with X-T1 and a X-T10. Lenses I still use the Samyang 12mm for a lot of my Landscapes that I originally purchased for taking images of the night sky with its F/2 aperture. I also have the 18-55 F/2.8 - F/4 and 55-200 F/3.5 - F/4.8. Depending on what I intend to photograph I may leave some equipment at home if I wish to travel light.Feedback
This image was seen by chance but keeping an open mind on your local environment and viewing other peoples work is a good place to get inspiration and learning different techniques to achieve interesting pictures. Going to a local camera club is a good way to gain experience and to get the enthusiasm to go out and take pictures.
