We were out in a public park - on a multiple model photoshoot Calgary Canada. It was a warm summer day.Time
The sun was pretty low by than (added to the lite effect) and we were running " against the clock ". Remember in Canada at summer the days are looooong - (thanks God).Lighting
She was an experienced model and were helpful - trust me it made the photographer life lot easier. The models had several outfits and she suggested this mini dress.. In my opinion listen to the model for more than one reasons.......let models feel comfortable with the posing, with the dress, and yes they have brain and have great many ideas as well (not just pretty head and great figure).Equipment
I'm a Canon guy and I use L lenses (when available). I got 5 D and a 7D (this is for action shoots because of her frame/ second - and slightly cheaper (slightly ?) to the big brother 1 DX. Don't get me wrong the 1 DX is a different class - if you can effort it is. So here I was with my 5D. ( because it's a full frame ). On this I used my all-around-der (is actually is a world ?) 24-105mm but I love the 100 mm macro and the 70-200 mm many times. I'm not a great fan of using strobe light (flash) in an outdoor scenario - but I know that many friend and fellow photographers do (usually with some kind of soft box or umbrella). Tripod ? - NO not for this kind of shoot.Inspiration
She suggested this mini dress. The sun was pretty low by than (added to the lit effect) and we were running " against the clock ". I had several hundred frame of her by than and I was looking for something different something - something sexy, so I asked her to spin for that reason. (Please respect your model and advice them of your plan - don't be sneaky for a few shoots and show the result before you do anything with it !) She did with grace. ...and I screwed it up cutting her feet of (in case you didn't notice).Editing
Oh yes ! - there is no image pass without inspection. P.S. (no it is not a pirate copy from the net) I think the best way is to minimize post production. I use RAW only on shoot. I'm not perfect. In my camera bag
It is depend. Yes it's depend on what weight I can carry. Seriously pending of the session. I was doing some promo shoot for a upcoming rock band (no musical instrument), just the good old fashion shooting in the park style. Yes I did packed and used my 15 mm fisheye ( no it wasn't my main lens for that shoot but I used it). Like my 24-105 and the 100 mm but the main workhorse was the 70- 200 mm - why ? One reason for sure that give some privacy between your subject (model(s) and yourself. However Africa would be quite different - I wouldn't use the 15 mm fisheye - or any other wide angle - for a lion portrait for sure. So pack for the purpose and newer go without extra memory card and battery. Two camera body can be a good idea - but there are pros and cons for that.Feedback
To me is the professional chemistry between the model and the photographer. You have to build relation(s) just like any other time in life. Be patient and listen other party(s) (model, fellow photographer, art director etc.) ideas, of course time frame is important. Make sure that the model get a copy of the work. Have the model bring someone to the shoot (lets her or him feels more comfortable) and NO means NO !!!
