This image was made in Vera's house in Hudson, NY. - My photograph "Vera_J_12-13-14---4930A" is a cell phone -panno image of Vera. We had planned a shoot at her home in Hudson, NY. I began doing shots of Vera in the kitchen. While we were doing the portraits in that space, I noticed that the sun had come out and that there were amazing shadows from the blinds being cast on the wall at the front of the kitchen. So I brought Vera to the front of the kitchen and had Vera pose with these shadows. I made several shots and was delighted with Vera's posing and the lighting. Then I got an idea to try something else with this lighting. So I asked Vera to stand on a chair so that she was fully in the shadows and I made a vertical panorama. I began making my image focusing at her head and I continued exposing by panned my cell phone camera vertically down her torso so that I made her taller than she actually is. The sunlight was so harsh that it washed out some of body details but Vera's facial expression was wonderful. This has been one of my favorite images. And I truly need to acknowledge that this was a collaboration, Vera and I. Dan McCormackTime
We planned for me to come to her home around noon on December 13th, 2014. It was a special day, 12 - 13 - 14. I began to photograph Vera in her kitchen a little after 12 noon and it was 12:49:30 as recorded in the data with the file that I made this image.Lighting
It had been a partly cloudy day when I was driving about an hour to Vera's home. Shortly after I began to shoot, I noticed that the clouds had passed and there was sunlight casting strong shadows of the blinds on the wall of the kitchen. This strong, harsh light washed out part of the torso details but this made the facial details more prominent.Equipment
I was using a Samsong Cell phone camera. This allowed me to create a panorama image.Inspiration
It is always the model's personality and self identity that I attempt to capture in my image.Editing
There was no post-processing in this image. The uniqueness of this image was the pano capability of this cell phone camera. In my camera bag
I will carry a tripod and a 650 watt studio light when I am shooting with a pinhole camera. When I work on my "Nude at Home" series I have 15 pinhole cameras, each with one 8" x 10" piece of sheet B&W film. I have done several pinhole camera shoots with Vera. On this shoot I planned to do pinhole camera images but I brought my cell phone camera to see what I might do with this new "tool".Feedback
Making images of models nude is fun but earning the models trust and respect is essential to success. Working with a new model, I will often spend half the time of the shoot sitting down and talking with the model before making any images.
