Location
This was taken in Houston Texas. Williams Tower is located adjacent to the Galleria. The Williams Tower stands 64 stories tall. It is the tallest building in Houston outside of the downtown area.Time
I had recently moved to Houston and was exploring the city for one of the first times since moving to the area. I wasn't on any specific photographic mission for the day, but I always carry my camera with me when I go exploring (or on "an adventure" as I always say). The Williams Tower can be seen from miles away. I was attracted to how it stood out from the surrounding buildings in the area. I don't remember the exact time of day this was taken, but it was sometime during the middle of the day.Lighting
I was exploring the Galleria area and was attracted to the Williams Tower because of the height, lines and angles. The bright day allowed for the clouds and tower to be reflected back onto the glass of the building.Equipment
This was taken with a Canon Rebel (my first Digital DSRL). I've upgraded to the Canon 7D since then.Inspiration
The dramatic angles, glass and reflections. Standing at the base of this enormous tower and looking up, I knew I wanted to capture the "awe" of it's size. I took several shots at different angles, but this view was by far the most appealing to me. It captures the fascinating architecture of the building, giving it depth and dimension.Editing
There is a little post processing to add a bit more blue to the sky and brighten the whites, but for the most part, this was a beautiful day with amazing natural light. In my camera bag
My camera bag has dramatically changed since taking this shot. I am self taught and learning each day. In my camera bag, I now have the Canon 7D. Depending on what I am shooting, I have several lenses that I carry. I love my prime 100mm macro, which I also use for photographing people. I have a prime 50mm f1.8 that I use for low light situations, and a 70-300 zoom for when I can't get quite as close as I would like. Lens cleaners are a also must. And make sure that you have a charged battery and extra cards at all times.Feedback
Look up! Look down! Don't just keep your eyes forward. And always carry your camera (even if it's on your phone). Cherish life and capture moments around you because they are fleeting and once they are gone, they are gone. With photography, those moments will be forever. And when you get a chance to look back at your images days or years later, you can say, "I remember that day".
