Location
I took this image at Lake Louise in May when the lake was still iced over and snow had fallen, There was this gouge on the snow covering and it made a nice lead into the lake and mountain back drop.Time
It was as I remember in the morning as we went for a stroll around the lake and not to many others were around at the time so planning the shot without interruptions was a good thing as many times you look at a shot but other people don't always give you the freedom to take the shot that you want luckily for me the timing was good.Lighting
It was a slightly overcast day and clouds were hanging on the mountain tops but it was not misty which allowed me to get a relatively clear shot of the lake and mountains but at the same time giving it a moody feelEquipment
I used a small Olympus SP-510UZ camera with a zoom lens, hand held for this image,Inspiration
I was looking for something different to use in the foreground for my travel shot of lake Louise and had tried some old trees and rocks in some previous shots I had taken that morning but as soon as I saw the disturbed snow covering and the green blue water I thought this is much better as it gave the scene a much cooler look which is what I was looking for as a bonus there was a beautiful roughness to the snow that had been disturbedEditing
Some post processing was to increase the colour density of the water colour and some adjustments to the exposure to bring out the roughness of the disturbed snow.In my camera bag
These days I usually pack my Nikon D3200 with 18-55mm and 70-200mm nikkor zoom lens, A remote release, neutral density filter pack and back up with either my Olumpus SP-510 or my Sony DSC-H100 cameras and when I can I pack my tripodFeedback
In places like this and when time is limited you have to be on the look out for the something that might look quite simple but have the imagination to see this as an interesting image. On tour you just do not have enough time to wait for the best photography conditions so try to get out when you can and grab what you see as an interesting subject, angle or approach.
