Behind The Lens

Location

I found this farmhouse somewhere in southeast Georgia, USA. I can't remember exactly where it was, but was within a 2 hour radius of Savannah.

Time

It was early afternoon (2:30-4:30ish) in mid December.

Lighting

Mid December so the sun was setting early and already low in the sky to the west, but still above the visible horizion. There was hardly any clouds in the sky at all and the sky was bright blue.

Equipment

Shot with a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XS, no tripod or flash. Aperture f/5.6 ISO 200 Shutter 1/800 Focal Length 44/1

Inspiration

I stumbled upon this old farmhouse on the last day of a two and a half month long road trip with my German Shepherd. After 16 years in the military I was ready for a break, so I packed the truck with a ton of camping gear and supplies, then me and my man hit the road. I was living outside Savannah, GA at the time and was only a couple hours from the house on the return leg when I came around a bend on an old country back road and saw this farm house in the plowed corn field. I found it curious that they left the house standing and planted the crops around it, rather than tearing it all down and using the space for more crop. I had to stop and take some shots before it WAS gone.

Editing

Minor editing with brightness, contrast and tones to get the "look" I was wanting, but nothing major.

In my camera bag

My bag at the time contained extra memory cards, battery and charger, the camera body and 3 Canon lenses; 35-80mm, 80-200mm and a 50mm 1:1.8.

Feedback

Take your time and look around, take advantage of the shooting opportunities when you have them. And don't be afraid to look around if it's safe to do so. As I explored closer and inside, I found an old delapitated piano I took a picture of. A local musician friend of mine in Savannah used that piano as the back cover shot on one of his albums......DON'T EVER PASS UP AN OPPORTUNITY WHEN YOU SEE IT.
