I was looking for new places to practice HDR photography, some friends invited me for a trip to Playa Langosta and I couldn't ask for a better opportunity to take nice waterscapesTime
The previous day I went to the beach during sunset and looked for spots that could work, I found some great ones but that day the light wasn't great. Next day I went back there at around 6 pm and waited for the twilight. This shot was just before that.Lighting
Once the sun was low enough to get past the clouds, the light really set the mood, turning the sky red but with the usually calmed and diffused light of an overcast day.Equipment
I used a Canon 60D, with an 18-135 mm 4-5.6 lens on, and a tripod to achieve a good HDR quality.Inspiration
I've always been a fanatic of landscape photography, and I really like the nice and soft effect water creates when long shutter speeds are used. I'm aware there's a lot of room for improvement, so I started to take my camera with me everytime I went on a trip to some natural places.Editing
As an HDR image, this indeed has a lot of post-processing work. I took 5 photos using an ND filter to lower shutter speed even more, then I used Adobe PS to align the HDR. After that I usually tune the HDR image in Photomatix, and then take it back to PS for coloring and contrast. In my camera bag
I tend to go really light to my field trips, carrying only my 60D, 18-135mm f4-5.6 lens, 50mm f1.8, my tripod, and a variable ND filter.Feedback
First of all, always carry your camera with you, even if you don't use it sometimes, because you will always regret not having your camera with you when you find a beautiful place, situation, sunset or anything you'd love to shoot. Second thing is to have a lot of patience and just enjoy the peace of waiting for the perfect moment when the sun is the right spot, or the waves of the sea create a beautiful form around the rocks. Also, it's good that if you are with friends, make sure they are also photographers like you, so they have the same patience you need. And finally, the same advice I hear whenever someone talks about photography, just keep taking photos, that0s the best way to keep improving and creating better photos each time.
