Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in my small work space off my kitchen where the robin watched me through the window and frequently flew in for scraps. On my long shelf below the window I have odd pieces of old office equipment including the stapler. The robin had become so fearless so while he perched I picked up my little camera and snapped this.

Time

What time of day - I can't remember exactly but it would have been about mid day.

Lighting

The lighting was just normal daylight and as it was in front of a window the subject was backlit.

Equipment

On my shelf I kept my very small Nikon Coolpix 3000. There was no time to adjust any settings so this would have been snapped on automatic and certainly just hand held.

Inspiration

What inspired me - well I think most would be moved to snap a wild robin sitting indoors on a Victorian stapler!

Editing

I have since started using Adobe's Lightroom but this photograph was edited on Nikon's own editing site. I obviously had to try and reduce the effects of back light by reducing the exposure and reducing the shadow effects. The foreground had to be lightened and the saturation adjusted.

In my camera bag

Nothing except whatever camera I choose to carry for the day !! I am inclined to shoot empathetically rather than technically. Which means I have to do a bit more post processing than should be necessary.

Feedback

Just keep your eyes wide open to embrace absolutely anything that appeals to you. Remember there is beauty and design in most everything. Refuse to let yourself shoot sunsets and look for the storms instead!
