This photo was taken during one of my trips through the countryside, in Romania. It was the beginning of autumn and it was the perfect day to admire nature.Time
It was in the afternoon of 27.10.2015. I and two of my friends were driving on a country road. Everywhere you looked you could see colors and shapes. It was just splendid. At one moment I asked my friend to stop the car in the middle of the road. I saw those hills and those colorful trees in the distance and those clouds passing through. I just knew I had to capture the moment. I did not think about it, I had to catch that cloud before floating away. So I focused on the area I liked the most and hit the shutter button.Lighting
The light is 100% natural. The afternoon light from the sun, plus the passing clouds that created a dance of light and shadows, plus the autumn colors of the trees that just blow your mind.Equipment
I used a Canon EOS 400D, my camera back then, with the kit lens 18-55 mm. No tripod. I was shooting in Manual Mode, at f/8, 1/500 sec exposure, ISO 200, with 18 mm focal length.Inspiration
Well, it's pretty simple. I was inspired by the colors, by the pointy shape of the trees (they look like candles to me), by the arrangement of the trees on the hills, by the contrast between light and shadow, by how the shadow of the trees falls on the ground, by the populated sky (a clean blue sky is nice, but a cloudy sky is perfect for me). I love nature. She is a great model :)Editing
Yes, I used post-processing. Besides sharpness, I worked separately different parts of the photo so that I could highlight colors and shadows using contrast. I used color balance, levels, hue/saturation and brightness/contrast. I was an amateur with the camera back then, it was actually my first year of shooting anything in the world. So the raw image did not show up very well the beautiful landscape. And so I learned using Photoshop because I wanted to draw attention upon nature's beauty. In my camera bag
Currently, I'm shooting with Canon 70D and a 18-135mm lens. I like the zoom very much, cause I can zoom in from a distance and catch something that's happening far away, like a human expression or any other flickering moment.Feedback
For me it's important to have mobility so I can access places that are difficult to reach. The nature in the countryside has a lot to give to a photographer's eyes, so I recommend you go where no one else has gone before :) Choose your season and time of day. I prefer autumn in the afternoon for the amazing diversity of colors and shadows. Stop the car and freeze the scene that makes you say "Wow". Enjoy what you do and always be open to nature. She's full of surprises.
