Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Long beach on Vancouver Island. This guy is crazy! The weather was chilly, and the water icy, but he wanted to go surfing!

Time

I was visiting Vancouver Island and shot this on a on Wednesday, April 23, 2008. I used my cheap point-and-shoot digital camera. Proof that cheap cameras can produce the best photos if you know how to use your gear.

Lighting

I didn't have time to consider the lighting when I shot this. It was dusk, nearing night time. I saw this guy out there and had to shoot this.

Equipment

This was shot on a Sony point-and-shoot digital camera with 8x zoom. One of the cheaper portable camera options back in the day.

Inspiration

I often shoot what inspires me in the moment, and this was one of those moments. The colours, the contrast just spoke to me. So naturally I had to take the photo.

Editing

There was absolutely no post-processing. This was taken and uploaded directly from the camera.

In my camera bag

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, I rarely leave the house. But when I do (and when I have my camera on me) it's a Nikon D3200 with a 35mm lens.

Feedback

Shoot with your instincts. Look everywhere. If something looks good and evokes an emotional response, then shoot it!
