2012, Afghanistan. An aerial view of the natural lakes of Band-e Amir, Bamiyan. The colorful lakes contain high amounts of mineral deposits which give them the unique blue coloration. The area is one of the few areas in this war torn country which still attracts tourists.

Beautiful shot! Just "wondering" why you took out all the detail in the land? What were you flying in?

Again, Thanks! This was taken about 40 miles west of Bamiyan, a city in central Afghanistan - the place where the Taliban destroyed the huge ancient Buddha statues in 2001. We flew up to Bamiyan from Kabul and the pilots flew over the lakes...the only editing I did was basic editing in Lightroom - clarity, sharpening, contrast, etc. After 30+ years of war and violence in Afghanistan, much of the land is pretty barren and looks like this. The airplane was a twin engine turboprop; I do not know the make or model.
