Location
The photo was taken in Mexico City in the fall of 2013. I was traveling there with a friend, and I do not recall exactly the location nor even the section of the city.Time
According to the metadata, the shot was taken at 11:39 am, late morning. We had arrived at our hotel and were out looking for a place to eat lunch.Lighting
Nothing special about the lighting. The scene was lit by bright natural daylight filtered through the leaves of the tree that was next to the couple.Equipment
I used a Canon 20D underwater camera for this shot. I just happened to be carrying it with me as I climbed the steps to a cross-over on a busy street. The shot was taken from above the couple, giving me more of a chance of being unnoticed. No other equipment was used. This was an impromptu shot - no time to compose and recompose. I had one chance to grab it because I did not want to disturb them in any way. I like street photography - catching people in a natural pose. I saw lots of lovers kissing in Mexico City. Never been to Paris, but I would bet that Mexico City would give it a good run for the title of 'City of Lovers'.Inspiration
I loved the two people being so carried away with each other - almost unaware of where they were or who was watching. Again, I love capturing people just being people, and not just posing for a picture.Editing
Some processing was used on this picture, but not a lot. Mainly a slight increase in contrast, a little temperature correction due to the shade tree, lowering the highlights to counter the bright sun in the left top of the picture and a vignette to help bring the eye to the subject. In my camera bag
I usually travel with a Canon 5D MkII and a Canon SL1, both with the kit lenses. Three 2-TB backup drives, a Canon 16-35mm and a Canon 100-400mm lens and a Canon S95 Powershot camera. I just happened to be carrying a Canon 20D underwater camera on this trip and quickly grabbed it right as we left to go eat lunch.Feedback
With street photography, you have to be quick and inconspicuous - to the point of being almost invisible. It takes a lot of practice but is great fun when you can pull it off. It is much easier to do with a point and shoot camera than when you are lugging around a large SLR!!
