I am a fool! I am a fool when I think politicians can change, when I think the prices are going down one of these days, when I think I am smart, talented, and handsome. I am a fool when I think I can stop craving for chocolate, will have a six-pack, win the lottery, and for the last but not least, when I think I can multitask. No I can´t, none of us can, but we think we do.Jim was there as much as Priscilla was, but quiet, not a single word, paying as much attention to her story as I was, and getting surprised and feeling sorrow for her as much as I was.
I thought I would be able to hold a conversation with both, Jim and Priscilla, at the same time, but pretty soon Priscilla was there, in the stage, taking all my attention while Jim would remain quiet as a dead body. I, effortfully, tried to look at him, to show that I was also there for him, but eventually would get myself looking at Priscilla instead of him again. For a minute, I remember thinking about it, that he might would feel hurt or neglected, and as soon as I finished with the lady I turned to him and said : "Well I am all yours now" almost feeling prouder than I should about my attention given.
Apparently he felt that overpride as well: "oh Yes, what do you want to hear?" with a very bothered tom of voice.
"I don´t know, whatever you want to say, Tell me a bit about how did u end up on the streets" I replied.
"I don’t live on the street… not anymore. "He replied offended, and already explaining that he finally got a spot in a sort of assistance house, where he lives nowadays. I regretted not had chosen my words more carefully and took it right away as a lesson learned.
Jim, according to himself, is graduate Mechanical Engineer from a university in Texas and also a Vietnam veteran:
"You put your ass in front of a bullet for your country and this is where you end up." He sarcastically giggled. Still according to him, he was going well with his career when he started having seizures, condition that affected his abilities and eventually sentenced him to the homelessness life.
