Location
This photo was taken in Trinidad Beach, CA while my girlfriend and I were staying in Humboldt.Time
It was about 2pm and way too bright outside so I thought there was no way I was going to walk away from this with some workable photos. Luckily, there were a few brief moments of some overcast.Lighting
The lighting was terrible. The sun was reflecting so brightly off the ocean that you could barely see anything. But, that is what ended up making this image so interesting because you can't see much of her face so her smile shines through. With some help from photoshop, of course.Equipment
I was using my Canon 6D, no tripod or additional equipment. Something I think is good practice for shooting events and street photography.Inspiration
Whenever my girlfriend is with me I feel inspired to capture her. So I would say that the love I have for her inspires me to take her picture, and I think that becomes apparent in our photos through her interaction with my camera.Editing
This photo felt more classic to me so I chose to make it black and white. I lifted some of the harsh shadows and brightened her smile just a bit. I adjusted the curves and the lens corrections as usual. In my camera bag
I always carry my 6D and a handful of my absolute favorite portrait lenses. This includes my Canon 135 f2L, 90 Tamron f2.8(the old version works just fine!), and my Cannon 40mm f2.8 pancake.Feedback
Invest in a portrait lens that is known for its artistic value and sharpness and I promise your photography will never be the same again.
