Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in San Francisco, in a public garden area

Time

Late afternoon - around 5

Lighting

I usually carry a large soft white reflector to bring out the details in the face.

Equipment

This was shot with a Canon 6D and one of my 135mm f2l (If I remember correctly!).

Inspiration

My girlfriend and her appreciation for Audrey Hepburn

Editing

I fiddled with this till it felt somewhat dated, and of course made it black and white

In my camera bag

These days I keep my "artistic" tools with me. My canon 5Ds, and a handful of vintage portrait lenses - Minolta 58 1.2, an old Helios, an old 55 Nikkor, and my new tamron 90 2.8 VC for macro. There's so much more character to the old lenses that not many people realize, but when they see it they appreciate it.

Feedback

Don't be afraid of your creativity. That is where you will find what speaks to you and what doesn't. Don't worry about what others think unless they are clients. And always be prepared - that's 90% of the process.
