Behind The Lens

Location

Surprisingly, I took this photo near Ferguson, Missouri in the middle of a large shopping center. I'm actually shooting through a chainlink fence.

Time

I took this photo in the morning on my way to work.

Lighting

I loved the simplicity of this scene with just enough light to bring out the ridges in the freshly mown grass. This photo was taken in the fall, but there is just a hint of color in the tree.

Equipment

For this photo, I was using my trusty little Sony DSC-HX90v which I carry everywhere!

Inspiration

I loved this photo even before I snapped the shutter. The camera allowed me to strip away the urban bustle and see just one frame of solitary calm. I didn't have to be in Ferguson, Missouri - I could be in remote countryside.

Editing

I did a bit of post-processing, but at the time this photo was taken my skills weren't very advanced. I clarified the image a bit and brought out the colors.

In my camera bag

Normally, I photograph with a Sony Alpha A7II. In my bag I have a 28-70 and a 55-210, backup batteries & HD cards, a headlamp and weather protection (for me and for my camera!) But for this photo, the only gear I had with me was my Sony HX90.

Feedback

Slow down! Look carefully at everyday scenes and try to see the world differently. Hundreds of people wiz by this tree and this scene everyday and never really see it. This photo taught me that there are beautiful, solitary places everywhere if I look.
