Location
When I moved to New York in 2014, I was in awe of the city. I still am, if we're being honest. I had a job in the Financial District and every day I walked past the unfinished Freedom Tower, or One World Trade. I saw the progress day after day and it was exciting. In May of 2015, my boyfriend (now my fiancé) was visiting. We made a list of things we wanted to do while he was here and we saw that the Observation Deck was going to be officially opening on Memorial Day Weekend while he was here. We bought tickets and trudged downtown to check out this new symbol of America's resilience and strength. We were not disappointed. Being up so high feels so surreal and the views afforded from that height are not to be rivaled in the city. And that's saying something! We felt so privileged to be some of the first people to ever step foot in this observatory.Time
We planned our visit to be around sunset, hoping for some incredible sunset photos, but it ended up raining. I was initially disappointed, but as you can see this photo turned out well anyway.Lighting
The lighting here was just natural.Equipment
I took this photo on my cell phone--an iPhone 5c. At the time, that was all I had.Inspiration
I think the view speaks for itself.Editing
I used a sepia toned/black and white filter. In my camera bag
I usually keep an extra lens, preferably a zoom lens, and a backup memory card.Feedback
My advice would be to trust your gut. If you see something that strikes you as amazing or breathtaking, take a photo. We each have our own unique perspective and as a photographer, I find that I often see things differently than those around me. It allows me to capture moments of beauty that others sometimes miss.
