Location
This photo was taken at Ninilchik , Alaska in the summer of 2012. To celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary we took an 8 month motor home trip, beginning in January, throughout the lower US States, up the coast to BC, the Yukon and finally Alaska . We spent 7 weeks touring and experiencing Alaska. On this particular day we had just returned from a halibut fishing trip and there were a number of Eagles on the shore. We were able to get very close to them and they were not about to leave some fish carcasses they were feeding on. Hence the title "Defiant" . We had an an amazing time in Alaska then back to the Yukon, BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and finally home, at the end of August, to our home in Ontario.Time
It was mid afternoon after we were back from our 8 hour Halibut fish trip (We left at 4 AM and it was already full daylight.)Lighting
Natural light. It was a very clear sunny day with a few very high clouds. The sun was at about 2 o-clock. Hence the angled reflections on the background rocks.Equipment
Hand held, Canon EOS Rebel T2i., Auto focus, EFS 18-55 mm auto stabilized lens and a Hoya polarizing filter.Inspiration
We love to photograph wildlife and landscapes.. We were there and so were the Eagles. Enough said. During our 8 month trip, my wife and I took over 13000 pictures. We have that memory forever..Editing
The only post processing was a slight sharpening using Photoscape. In my camera bag
A 18-55 mm lens and a matching 55-250 mm lens. cleaning cloths, spare batteries, a charger and at least two high speed, 16 gb SD cards. We like to travel light and carry our cameras everywhere.Feedback
Our best advice is to select a picture angle that takes advantage of the natural light. Take lots of shots especially when pictures of birds. Take shots as you approach because they may decide to leave and at least you will have something if they do. For landscapes walk around a bit and select the best angle for your shot. Just basic stuff but that is how great shots make it to your SD card.
