This photo of a friends pup was taken in the backyard of her home!Time
This was fun, because it was a shoot of my friend and her pup...and it was a little earlier than I like to shoot and her pup was so energenic at 10 in the morning! she was racing around and I just had to try to keep up!Lighting
The lighting for this particular image was sort of difficult, we were in a wooded area with light shinning above us, and onto trees in the distance, I felt like it was perfect for a playful fall mood, and thats what I was going for!Equipment
I shot this image with a Nikon D610, with a Nikkor 55mm 1.8 lens.Inspiration
I was working on getting at least one good shoot of this beautiful girl and she was just racing around so I thought to myself that If she just had a stick maybe she would sit for a second. with the thought that she might get interested in a stick I realized one of my favorite poses (or non posed) that pups do is just lie down and look up at you! So I lied down on the ground and waited for her to collapse (which she did luckily right in front of me) and the I told my friend to call her name...and I shot a series of images and as soon as I saw this I knew it was my favorite!Editing
I did post process this image to create a more deep tone to the orange background, I wanted a deep fiery tone and so I did need to pop it a bit!In my camera bag
what do I keep in my bag. Hmm Well I always have my Nikkor 55mm 1.8 prime lens because thats my main lens. Next the actual camera, my Nikon D610, I have my backup camera D5000, a sigma 70-200 and my flash, as well as my grey cards and always my battery charger!Feedback
I'd tell anyone trying to recreate this type of picture that you need a second person around, you should lie on your stomach and wait for the pup to find something interesting and from there you can have their owner or the second person, stand slightly behind you to your side, and call their name or make a noise or in my case hold up some leaves because she loved trying to catch them. And most of all, be patient, dogs aren't people and they won't do what you ask. It really comes down to luck and being in the right spot at the right time.
