Behind The Lens

Location

It was just before twilight in Sacramento California at the epic metal music festival Aftershock.

Time

Roughly 7 pm, just prior to the sun disappearing behind the horizon.

Lighting

The original color of the sky was lighter pinks, reds, and purples.

Equipment

I used my canon rebel t-3, no flash, no tripod.

Inspiration

The textures I could see in the clouds. The juxtaposition of the sun, sky, and clouds. It was loud yet soft in a strange and intriguing way. I made me feel alive, so I wanted to capture it.

Editing

Yes! I turned up the saturation to deepen those colors. And I adjusted the contrast, brightness, shadows, and highlights.

In my camera bag

I have my cannon rebel t-3, a zoom lens, a portrait lens, my charger, and extra battery.

Feedback

Honestly, you just have to watch the sky during sunset. And post processing, you want it to be saturated if you’re going for these deep tones, as well as adjust the highlights, shadows, brightness, and contrast accordingly. I usually just play with the post processing to see if I like what I come up with.
