Location
In my backyard in Christchurch, NZTime
It was mid afternoon on a sunny dayLighting
As it was pretty sunny I couldn't get the results I wanted with the Lily in the garden. I cut a nice long stem and moved it into the shade which allowed me more control over the look i wanted - which was bold and simple.Equipment
I used my Nikon D5200, no tripod, but i did make use of the black bbq cover to give me a nice solid background to drape the lily over.Inspiration
I had a large number of lilies growing in the garden this year and had been trying for some time to capture their simple elegance but i couldn't quite get it right. patience paid off though and i'm really happy with this shot.Editing
I just upped the contrast a tiny bit.In my camera bag
i try not to carry around too much, so just my D5200 15-55mm and 55-200mm plus a cleaning brush and cloth. I'm also a bit of a clumsy photographer so keep couple of band-aids and cleaning gel on hand for emergencies.Feedback
Don't give up, picture what you want and keep working towards it. Use props around the house to get the look you want, they don't need to be fancy or expensive.
