This photo was taken at one of my city's many waterfalls - Albion Falls. People come from hours away just to see them as Hamilton, On is a little closer to Toronto than Niagara Falls and It a strong contender for how beautiful they each look.Time
You might not be able to tell at first glance but take a second look and try to feel the mood and what I was feeling in this photo. I was the only one here this morning, overcast, it had been raining all night and was so foggy, I almost didn't make the drive there. There was so much fog around the top of the falls I couldn't see the bottom. I ended up spending my morning from about 8am-10am here trying to work out how to get the right amount of Fog/Waterfall ratio.Lighting
Taking this photo, and most any photos of waterfalls from below can be tricky, there are many tips and tricks you can read, but it really comes down to creativity. I knew where I had a bit more density in the fog to add some depth to my photo and how much light I could let in from there. The most important thing I worry about is the way your eyes move from the waterfall to the foggy forest to the desolate sky, each telling different, but similar stories.Equipment
For this photo, I was using a regular tripod, my Canon 6D with the 24-105mm kit lens, and a polarizing filter(to help me keep my shutter open longer). By maintaining a low shutter speed, iso, boosting my aperture, using a tripod, and the filter, it allowed me to maximize the amount of movement I was able to capture in my photo.Inspiration
While I had only been driving for a couple of months, my dad was on vacation and had left me his car to use, that week I made an effort to get out and shoot a different place every day. I ended up doing it and came out with some of my favourite photos to date.Editing
Post processing does happen much in my photos anymore - In this photo, I played around with some of the hues of my colours and minor lighting editing including dropping my highlights and tad and adding a bit of clarity. The only thing I did to this photo in photoshop was removed a few small branches on the right side of the photo, which now looks more natural and clean.In my camera bag
This is an odd question for me, I don't bring much of anything with me. My camera, a tripod over my shoulder, a couple extra batteries in my back pocket with some bird seed/nuts kept in my jacket. I try to pack light as I enjoy getting up in fun places when I'm out exploring like searching for geocaches. I'm still 20 so I make the most of this young body.Feedback
The only advice is to get out and shoot more, show people and get feedback on your images from those who inspire you. I emailed Steve McCurry, my favourite photographer a photo that I recreated of his and I got an email back - he loved my photo. Every time I meet a new photographer I always remember to be a student first, and a photographer second, because you never know when you have an opportunity to learn something new unless you are actively looking out for it.
