I am not sure what time. I believe mid-afternoon I remember it was 115 degrees.Lighting
The clouds hit some areas and not others.Equipment
I used an 8x10 glass plate wood camera. My lens was a 300mm or 360mm I can not remember. my tripod is a heavy wood model that I also use on my 11x14 camera.Inspiration
I photograph old missions and any old "stuff" that seems to tell a storyEditing
I first scanned the glass plate with my Epson plate scanner then I adjusted the resolution and sharpness in my computer.In my camera bag
I am now too old for the large cameras so I carry two canons 7D's with a verity of lens. Tamron 16 to 300mm,10 to 20mm canon, 6.7mm fisheye manual lens, and others. I carry a medium size tripod, a monopod. my camera bag is a jeep 4x4.Feedback
If you travel in the southwest in abandoned areas be prepared there are few people or places to help you.If you're traveling down old desert roads have an off-road type vehicle. Over the years I have seen people dead near their city cars.That said carry white camera bags black bags can heat up very fast also bring large white towels to put over your cameras when they're on a tripod the heat can kill your camera faster than anything. I travel in the hottest times there are few people then. I grew up in the desert. Try and take someone with you.
