I took this foto on the last day of my vacation in Australia, were i made two roadtrips in Adelaide ZOO.Time
After visiting the Botanic Garden of Adelaide i decided to spent the last hours in the ZOO, always one of my favorite spots in the big citys i visit on my travels. It was almost at the end of the tour that i arrived at the place where the mandrils are located. As i was getting tired and looking for a bench i saw one of the mandrils yawn and showing his teeth. Of course i was too late to make the shot, so i decided to stay and hope that it would happen again. After some time this beautifull ape fullfilled my hope. (taken at 14.51h local time on 27/10/2015)Lighting
Daytime . I cracked up the ISO for the spot was quite shady, and i needed a somewhat faster shutterspeed for i did not use a tripod.Equipment
For this photo i used my Canon EOS 7D Mark II, with a EF 70/200mm F2.8 L IS II USM lens with a 2X III, for the distance was rather far. Settings were Exp 1-80 sec at F 5.6, focal lenght 380 mm at ISO 1600. The shot was made handheld.Inspiration
Although the ape was clearly yawning as if it was bored, it looked also agressive as it was showing al his teeth, with facinated me.Editing
Only some sharpening and basic settings adjustments were applied. In my camera bag
When I travel i take two bodys with me. The Canon EOS 7D Mark II and a Canon 60D. For lenses i took on this trip the Canon EF 70-200mm F 2.8 L, Canon EF 100-400mm 4.5-5.6 L IS II USM, Canon EF 16-35 2.8 L II USM and Canon Macro EF 100mm 2.8 L. To extend the range i have the Canon Extender EF 2x III and Sigma converter 1.4 EX DG. And of course some filters, extra batteries and lots of extra cards.Feedback
I would have used i tripod in this case with remote control if i had taken it with me, for i had to wait quit a while, and my armes got very tired and the equipment getting heavier as it seems the whole time. I was lucky with this shot without to much movement.
