Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at the end of Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Time

I woke up at 4 AM and got there by 5 AM This photo was taken sometime between 5:30 and 6:00 AM.

Lighting

As we all know, the golden hours (sunrise and sunset hours give us gorgeous light. For this reason, I made a point of being there to see how the day started at that corner of the city.

Equipment

I used an Manfrotto tripod with a ball head, My camera is a Canon 5D mark 3 with a 24-105 mm L lens. I had no flash and just let the natural beautiful light to its job.

Inspiration

I knew that the fishermen leave for their morning of work at sunrise. Their life is very rustic, simple and absolutely very photogenic. So, I decide to go back to scenes I had experienced my last time in Rio de Janeiro but had no camera on me at the time.

Editing

Yes, I post processed with Lightroom.

In my camera bag

On a basic outing, I always carry my Canon 5D mark 3 with my general lens, 24-105mm, an extra battery fully charged and my flash cards wallet. This is my basic equipment. However, I quite frequently also have my Canon flash on board.

Feedback

I know hearing the alarm clock at 4 AM is not at all a pleasant thing, but my fellow photographer it is immensely gratifying! The colors, the reflexes, the scenes with people starting their day is hugely photogenic and then by 7:30, 8:00 AM you are done and able to go back for some good breakfast and who knows to even a good nap?
