Location
This photo was taken in the south of France. I had won a photo contest sponsored by a river cruise company that traveled down the Rhone river in France. An Excursion took us to a wine tasting in a Chateau where we toured through and learned the history of the building and the family that to this day still resides. It was mid afternoon when I was exiting the Chateau and I noticed the light was perfect. The courtyard and the inside of the building were both lit up, all I had to do was frame a picture. This photo turned out to be one of my favorites.Time
This photo was taken around 3pm. It was a mix of clouds and sun which made for nice lighting. The sun wasn't very harsh and the shadows added great contrast to some photos taken that day.Lighting
I like natural lighting best. Being an amateur photographer, and not knowing that much about flash photography, I depend on the best lighting which is natural sunlight.Equipment
I use a Nikon D700 with a 16-85mm Nikon lens. The photo was taken without a tripod and no flash was used.Inspiration
This was a trip that I won in a photo contest and whenever I travel, I always keep that in mind... Look for a contest winner! Take your time, find a scene or subject, take the photo.Editing
I always post-process my photos. Crop, enhance the colors a bit, sometimes try to add an HDR effect and keep the photo that best compliments the scene you envisioned when you photographed it.In my camera bag
Equipment depends on the trip. If you're going to Africa on safari, take a telephoto lens. If your traveling to a city like Venice or New York, you might want more of a lens like a 16-85mm to capture the sights. Sometimes I carry two cameras with these lenses so I can shoot without having to change lenses.Feedback
Experiment with settings. Digital photography allows anyone to take a great shot. If the first one isn't what you actually wanted... try again! Practice, practice, practice... and always make the shot, don't just take a shot!
