The picture was taken at the International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford (UK) in July 2015.Time

Natural light, lots of smoke in the background!Equipment
Canon EOS 70D with a Canon EF 70-300mm Zoom Lens - f/5 1/500sec ISO 200 - Hand held.Inspiration
The dynamics of the event. The Apache helicopter was taking part in a mock air attack, with lots of pyrotechnics and, of course, much noise. It was the smoke in the background which really prompted me to take the shot, as, for me, it added so much realism to the shot.Editing
The original shot was in colour, although this was minimal, being a faint orange glow from the pyrotechnics. This glow seemed to be more of a distraction than a benefit, so I de-saturated it and felt that the result had more impact than the original. In my camera bag
Canon EOS 70D, Canon EF 70-300mm Zoom Lens, Canon EFS 18-55mm kit lens.Feedback
I would have liked to have had a monopod for a little more stability. This was the best of several shots inasmuch as there is movement in the rotor blades, which adds much to the image. I shot in Shutter priority, using centre weighted metering.
