Behind The Lens

Location

In Manchester, UK. In my own room as I didn't have money to rent a studio.

Time

Evening, around 7-8pm

Lighting

I used a normal, desk lamp.

Equipment

A nikon D300s and a 50mm lens 1.4

Inspiration

I always get inspired by people around me and by different cultures and how would that translate into a fashion photograph. In this photo you can see the geisha inspired lips and the porcelain face, so static, but with emotion in the eyes.

Editing

I did correct some small blemishes, did a black and white, contrast and sharpen.

In my camera bag

The 50mm 1.4 and a 24mm 2.8, a tripod, remote control and some lights for industrial use.

Feedback

If you have a studio, even better, but if not all you need is a single light. If you want softer shadows you can use a softbox and a dark background. Make sure you have a faster shutter speed around 1/200-1/250 and a smaller aperture (so a higher number) like f/5.6 or if your light allows a f/9.
