After 27 years in our family home, we felt it was time to downsize. we found a condo that has a gorgeous river view. One day, we went out on the deck to see the fog roll in over the river. I had to run back in to get the camera!Time
The sun rises just to the right of the framing of this shot. I remember taking it sometime around 9:00 a.m. in mid October. To the left of the frame is a city view and the fog was just covering half of the streets. I loved this framing because it felt like the cars and train were coming out of the ether. I also was struck by how the mountains and bridge structure were in silhouette.Lighting
I wanted to feature different aspects of geometry in this shot. There is the man made geometry of the bridge, nature's geometry of the mountains and cloud streaks - both sitting on the mystery of the fog.Equipment
I used a Canon EOS 70D. f 11, ISO 100 at 1/125 sec. exposure.Inspiration
As soon as I saw the bridge rising from the fog, I wanted to take the shot. I love fog. Living by the river now, we get to see many examples of days that are shrouded in the fog.Editing
I wanted the whole scene to reflect the mysteriousness of the fog. I wanted to have the mountains in silhouette as well as the bridge. In my camera bag
Recently retired, I have newly become interested in creating interesting photographs. My retirement gift to myself was a Canon EOS 70D, a Sigma 18-300 lens. I also have been spending quite a bit of time learning Photoshop. I don't know how I had time to work!Feedback
When the fog starts to roll you just have to be ready to start aiming and shooting. For me, it is the shapes of things coming into and out of the fog that I find interesting. The fog allows you to see what is there everyday from a different perspective.
