This photo was taken in a small patch of bush in L'Amoreaux North Park right beside a walking path. It was raining and very cold so no one was around expect for a dog walker here and there.... If I heard anyone coming I would try and duck and stay very still. Luckily, no one saw me.Time
It was a very cold rainy day. It was raining so much and I was so cold to the point I gave up and started walking back to the bus stop. However, for a very short period, the heavy rain lightened up a little bit so I was able to take a few shots before it started to down pour again. It was very quick and very uncomfortable, but I really wanted to get this picture.Lighting
I used complete natural light, nothing super fancy. Overcast rainy weather is actually perfect natural light, I was also able to get some rain drops in the image too.Equipment
My baby is a Nikon D7000 and we have a love hate relationship. My camera has been through snow, rain, hail, mud and of course I have dropped it a few times, however it still works. However, he likes to turn off by himself sometimes and that sucks when I am doing self portraits with the self timer. I do use a tripod every single time I photoshoot. I put my camera on the tripod, set up a 30 second self timer with 3 second delay per 9 shots (so I can do a variety of poses or to give my self more time to get in to position). I do not have a whole lot of lenses, I use a 50mm 1.2 film portrait manual lens, a 85mm Lensbaby with some attachments and a 35-50 zoom Tamron lens for some reason. I also own a strobe light for when I want to do indoor work, it is a Nikon SB-700 and I love it.Inspiration
I gained quite a lot of inspiration from Francesca Woodman, she is an amazing photographer and I highly recommend you google her. She does a lot of nude work in abandoned places and in nature, and she really inspired me to do nude work. I discovered her from Gregory Colbert (who is also a great photographer, look up 'Ashes and Snow') while we were chatting on Skype 2 years ago. With all this inspiration, I was out almost everyday doing nudes in the forest (wherever I could find forest) with unique props.Editing
I will be completely honest and it will shock some but I honestly do not know how to use Photoshop very well. The blue butterfly in this image is indeed real. I processed this raw image in Lightroom and did some adjustments with the curve tool, turned down the clarity to make it softer and some vignetting.In my camera bag
I try to carry super light since I do have chronic pain all over my back, neck and shoulder. I carry 2 lenses, my tripod and Camera. I also I have keys in there, a pack of cigarettes and sometimes props.Feedback
I would not really appreciate it if anyone stole my idea, however, if this does inspire someone to do nude work I do have some advice for sure. Try and find a park that has cluster of forest (so less people will see you). If you live in the city, you can try to do some in your house with candle lit (or window light) you get really nice results. The best time to go for outdoor nude work is if it is rainy day or over cast since people do not like to be outside. You can even try to go at dinner time when everyone is inside eating. Try to wear as less as possible. if it is summer time where something that is easy to slip on and off and do not wear underwear or socks. Wear something like a long dress, sweat pants, tights, t-shit. In the winter bring a huge jacket that is easy to take off and boots (socks or no socks it doesn't matter but your socks will get wet in the snow, I recommend wearing boots and just shooting yourself above the knee). While you are photoshooting you will be able to simply put your big jacket over your naked body instead of putting your clothes on and then off.
