Behind The Lens

Location

Cypress Gardens, South Carolina

Time

It was in the afternoon. They have boats you can use to row through the lake. Took this picture from the boat. The stone bridge has been there a long time. Part of the movie "The Patriot" was filmed here.

Lighting

This day was not real sunny and the trees filtered direct sunlight making it seem quiet and almost lonely.

Equipment

I have a Fuji 35mm. Didn't use a tripod or flash.

Inspiration

I love the south and the swamps. This was special because of the bridge. I don't always include people or structures so this was not my norm. It came out good because of the setting. Something about floating on the water with the Spanish moss swaying on the branches helps to create the mood.

Editing

On this particular picture I may have added some brightness, but it didn't need much.

In my camera bag

The camera and extra batteries. One long tripod and one short tripod with rice bag for steadying on dash. Binoculars for watching birds, Vicks for bug protection (I am a deerfly magnet and allergic) and coffee and snacks.

Feedback

Look for an interesting focal point, whether a structure, plant or person. The rest is an added bonus. Some of my favorite photos were taken in less than a minute, sometimes as my husband is driving. Sometimes I don't see the beauty until I put it on the computer. Also I take lots of shots (the nice part of digital) which can give me different perspectives. I get teased for taking what others think are crazy pictures, until they see them later matted. Don't be afraid to shoot what you see and feel.
