Although the Arc de Triomphe is a major tourist attraction, it provided me with the opportunity to photograph Paris during a warm sunset which left the city glowing. From this vantage point, I was able to view almost all of Paris' landmarks, with the Arc itself being left out. 6 weeks after I shot this picture, the Paris Attacks occurred leaving the city reeling in terror. I won't inundate anyone with ideologies, political views, and thoughts for revolutionizing the world. The only thing I will say is that people should remember how much work and passion were put into creating a city as vibrant as Paris. If one looks back through history, different forms of terrorism have existed for ages, usually propelled by the same conflicting ideas that lead to greed, envy, and evil. Don't let terror stop you from enjoying life. Be kind, love, and soak in the beauty everywhere you go. Don't fight fire with fire-be smart when facing your opponent, or you'll end up being in their place. I hope this picture serves as a reminder that Paris was built over centuries of war, pain, grief...but passion fueled it through each obstacle and it still stands as a city known for its love of life. The city contended with life's perils, and it won.
