Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in Key Biscayne Florida at the Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park.

Time

The photo was taken at Sunset.

Lighting

The sunset happens behind the Lighthouse, so the only way to create enough drama with the clouds and add the water to the image was to get inside the shore with the tripod and compose the image in an angle where the main subject still remains the Lighthouse with all the surrounding beauty around it.The Lighthouse is a 95 foot tower.Constructed in 1825, it guided Mariners off the Florida reef, which starts near Key Biscayne and extends southward a few miles offshore of the Florida Keys. The Lighthouse was bought by the State of Florida in 1966. It established the land as Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park.

Equipment

I used a Canon 3Ti Rebel with a Tripod and a Canon EF-S 10-22mm Wide Angle lens.

Inspiration

I was inspired to take this photo because when I was a child my parents and Grandparents used to take me to this beach all the time. When Hurricane Andrew hit South Florida in 1992 , it damage the State park and half the trees and beauty surroundings of the State park was devastating. I did not return until 2012, 20 years later. The park was just as i remembered in my childhood. I return again and again. Finally I had a vision as to how I wanted to take this photo and I did.

Editing

I used post-processing merging 3 images into one to create enough light where it need it. The help boost enough drama to the clouds and bring out the beauty in the beach and surroundings in the lighthouse.

In my camera bag

My backpack always carries the Canon 7D Mark II ,along with 3 or 4 lenses. A 300mm lens,EF 24-70mm,and a wide angle EF-S 10-22mm.

Feedback

My advise is , whether you love it as a hobby or you are a professional photographer you always "Go Big " and the results will payoff ! As beautiful as a subject may be,it can be boring if you don't find a way to add life to it, whether is drama in the clouds or a good surrounding around the subject.
