Thank you. I think it's the mystery; wondering what the history of the buildings was...

Can't say I remember! I know I was driving by on the way to somewhere else, and I spotted this derelict building and knew I had to pull over and get a shot!Time
Morning. It's my favorite time of day to go out with my camera. There is less traffic and no crowds, plus the lighting is better. I love getting out before everyone else. I may be home from my outing already while you're just having your morning cup of coffee!Lighting
I favor the softer light of early morning. I prefer natural light.Equipment
I took this photo with my Canon T3i, and the kit lens. I don't have access to expensive equipment, so I work with what I have, and strive to improve my skills. This was hand held, in fact I just pulled over to the side of the street with my camera sticking out of the open window! I'll do what it takes to get the shot.Inspiration
I love old buildings, the more decrepit the better. They have a mystery and character about them that I find make for an intriguing image. I'm always on the lookout for these types of subjects. Friends sometimes think I'm crazy when I'm getting all excited about an "ugly" burned out hull of a house somewhere! Where they see junk, I see possibilities.Editing
I didn't do much post processing for this image, just the basics. I adjusted the sharpness to highlight the texture, and adjusted the shadows and highlights. Also just a slight vignette to frame the photo. The amount I do depends on the particular photo I'm working with.In my camera bag
Being older and having physical challenges, I always travel as light as possible. I have a backpack I converted into a camera case, and it normally holds my camera, two zoom lenses to cover the most common focal lengths, a GorillaPod, and small accessories such as remote shutter release and lens cleaner. I have a full sized tripod in the trunk of my car, but often it stays there. While it can be frustrating sometimes, I also enjoy the challenge of making due with minimal equipment and having to come up with inventive ways of getting the shots.Feedback
Carry your camera with you. Keep your eyes open at all times, to be aware of the opportunities around you. I do a lot of pulling over to the side of the street, or pulling down a side road, when I see a subject I want to capture. Very frustrating when you see something that would make a great photo, but there is too much traffic and nowhere to pull over! That's one reason I usually try to get out in the very early mornings. The great shot isn't necessarily the one who've planned for. Always strive to improve your skills, but have fun while you do it!
