I used a Canon 7D, with a 10-22 EFs and a tripod. Also gortex pants and mountaineering books made it a little easier to stay in the water!Inspiration
I was driving down the highway and saw the light reflecting off of the creek. I knew there was a cross country ski trail with a bridge over the water. I tried a few shots around the bridge, ended up going down beside the creek. Every shot that I took closer to the water made the reflected colours stand out even more. I ended up walking into the middle of the stream and taking this shot in water almost to my knees. I loved the low angle, and the way it caught the warm yellow against the cold snow.Editing
There wasn't much involved in editing this photo. I boost the yellows a little bit and did a little bit of sharpening to the rocks. I loved the feel of it and didn't want to tamper with it too much.In my camera bag
I now use a 5d MKII, and I carry a 24-70F2.8, 70-200 F2.8 ISII, 100mm F2.8 Macro and my tripodFeedback
Be brave, get in there and get the shot. The low angle from in the water was something I thought would be a little different. It really helped catch the reflected light in this case. I also put the aperture to F22 inorder to get the long exposure to create the smooth water look. I would have preferred an ND filter, but I didn't have one at the time. I tried a very fast shutter speed as well to freeze the motion of the water. I looked at bother and I liked the smooth calm look of the water. I felt it added to the warm feel of the water next to the snow. Try both ways, see what looks best to you.
