tones are fantastic and warm. well composed image, i dont even ,mind the sun blowing out that small part of the sky because the sun flare shows how powerful the sun is. Very night shot!

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken near Leavenworth Kansas.

Time

Late on a mid-September afternoon.

Lighting

The lighting was a combination of a warm afternoon September sun and an off-camera Nikon Sb600 softened by a Fstopper Flash Disc.

Equipment

Nikon D750 with a 20mm 1.8 Nikon Prime, SB600 Flash with Fstopper Flash Disc and Tri-Pod

Inspiration

I just love shooting old relics, while living in Colorado there is a stunning setting everywhere you turn. Here in the Kansas City area subjects are not as numerous. But if one pays attention there are a few gems to be had. I'm always on the lookout for something that interests me. So glad I captured this when I did. Someone unknown actually stole the chrome headlight rings from this vehicle. What a shame.

Editing

But of course, there was considerable post processing. The first step is always Lightroom to adjust exposure and tweak the highlights and shadows, maybe a hint of saturation and vibrance. Tweak the clarity just a bit. Then on to CS6 where I used the NIK Suite to warm the scene around the truck itself. One of the filters used was from Color FX Pro. The Indian Summer filter added the warm Autumn glow to the scene.

In my camera bag

Generally, I carry the 20mm 1.8, a 35-110 2.8 and a 70-200 2.8 all of them Nikon so far. With the exception of the 20mm, the others are old glass but still do a marvelous job. I always have a tripod stashed in the truck somewhere. I carry SB600 and 900 Nikon Flash along with the Fstopper Disc, a Roque Snoot/Grid. Last but not least because of my love of long exposure I always have COKIN 10 stop ND and a circular variable ND filter with a remote trigger.

Feedback

Always, always keep looking for something to capture. Subjects are everywhere, I spotted this old truck in a field just off the highway on my way to a golf course up the road. This subject was on private property, always try and get permission. I just stopped by this location last week to offer the owner a print of their old truck. (glad I did, they may have thought I had stolen the headlight rings) Ironically this is not the print they chose .
