The photo was taken in a botanical garden here in Denmark. I am a self-taught photographer, who has only been taking photos for 2 years. The model is from a model agency so I was really thrilled to have the opportunity to photograph her.Time
The photo was taken around 4-5 p.m. In contrast to the warmth vibe that this photo have, the weather was actually pretty bad outside. It was really windy and at one point it actually started to rain. Good thing the garden has small greenhouses, where people can go in and see some tropical plants and flowers. It was really humid inside, but the lights that were shining through the big windows were just perfect.Lighting
I wanted this image to have an ethereal feel to it. Since I have taken photos in botanical gardens before, I knew that I didn't really need different equipments to get the shot that I wanted. I have always prefered to use natural lights, so the only thing I brought with me was a reflector. I asked our MUA to hold it for me and positioned it to lit the model's face.Equipment
For this shot I used my Canon 5d Mark 2 and a 24-105 f/4L lense. I hand-held the camera and used a reflector when it was needed.Inspiration
Actually the model inpsired me to take this photo. The agency uploaded some photos of her in a Danish photography group, asking if there would be photographers who would be interested in shooting her, since she is going to visit Denmark. I was really hesitant to write them a message since I thought that I do not have that much experience yet. However, I really like the model's look so I thought "Hey just try and ask, show them what you can. If they don't like your work, then it's fine. At least you tried". Fortunately, the owner of the agency was such a friendly person. He even applaud me for having the courage to message them. So I was really happy. Since I wanted an ethereal and dreamy shoot, I sent a message to a designer, who was willing to let me borrow her gorgeous gowns and accessories. Then we went to the botanical garden to take photos.Editing
I love making dreamy images that appear to resemble paintings and spice it up with alternative fashion clothings and accessories. So, I tend to edit my photos that way. I always start my editing by trying to find the right colours that fit the overall mood of the photo. So I play a lot with curves, selective colour and gradient map. It's easier this way, especially if I am making a series. I can just group everything and drag it to the other photos after doing the necessary tweaks. In my camera bag
I don't really bring a lot of equipments with me when I am out shooting and quite frankly I do not own a lot either. I usually bring my 5d mark 2 camera and 2 different lenses my 70-200 2,8 canon lense and my 25-105mm lense. I also bring my smallest reflector with me in case I would need it.Feedback
With photos like this it is important to have a model with a certain look. Someone who can portray innocence. As for lighting, you don't really need to take this kind of photo in a greenhouse. However, you need to take the photos when the sun is not that harsh outside. I would advice taking it when the sun has just risen or a couple of hours before sunset. You will get a more soft light.
