Location
The photo was taken on Lake Lugano (Switzerland). I'm a self taught photographer form the same city, Lugano it's a small city in souther Switzerland, it's a beautiful place, sadly other than a beautiful landscape it doesn't offer much.Time
It was mid-afternoon of a really gloomy day, the city was in full winter swing, it was the 12th of December and the cold helped a gloomy day becoming even more gloomy, the streets where mostly empty, and the sky was promising a show later on in the day, as I approached the lake I had to capture the menacing clouds overlooking the lake.Lighting
I wanted to capture exactly the feeling I had during my time there, I think you can actually feel the weather just by looking at the picture. Do you want a coat ?Equipment
This was shot on a Canon 7D, with a Sigma 50mm F1.4Inspiration
I spent the whole day wandering around in the city trying to find my frame, and after hours upon hours, suddenly it hit me, the 'frame' i was looking for in the streets wasn't in the streets at all ! There it was, a beautiful landscape, that was telling the story of the city that day.Editing
Post-processing wise, just a little bit of sharpening in Adobe Lightroom, mostly I wanted to actually get what I had unfolding in front of my eyes directly in camera. In my camera bag
It depends on assignments, but usually no matter what I always have the following in my bag: -Sony A7 Body -Canon 7D Body -Battery grip -Metabones adapter (canon on nex) -a handful of SD cards and CF cards -Sigma 50mm 1,4 -Canon 85mm 1,8 -Samyang 14mm 2.8 Depending on the assignment, I might carry other equipment such as: -Canon 580EX II x2 -Pocketwizards radio triggers -Sigma 70-200 2.8 -Sigma 17-70 2.8 -Sony 28-70 -ND filters, grad ND filters and needless to mention, lightstands, reflectors, and so on.Feedback
I would say get your camera, and literally explore the city, it helps if you have a lake near by, but that photo was a result of a day spent in the city trying to get it to know better. It sounds silly, since I was born here, but a city as always something new to offer, there is always a new story, something happening, it's just a matter of finding it. So get out with your camera, and stay out, try and find "it", "it" is not there waiting for you, but if you look hard enough you'll find 'it"
